So Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy--The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass--is getting a lavish theater production in the UK in what seems to be the puppetry style of The Lion King. And the story also seems to be headed for the silver screen. Having read the first book, which I enjoyed but didn't feel much for emotionally, I think it'll be interesting to hear the reaction of those who are threatened by the Harry Potter books, or how they'll avoid a double standard in the way they treat HDM and the Left Behind series.
